The Alpha Delta Phi Foundation runs two literary competitions, one for undergraduate students and one for college alumni, as described below.
The 2024-2025 Undergraduate Literary Competition is open for submissions until Friday, June 27, 2025! See details below.
Undergraduate Literary Competition
The Alpha Delta Phi Foundation Undergraduate Literary Competition is open to all undergraduate college students associated with the Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity or Alpha Delta Phi Society.
There are eight distinct categories: Fiction; Non-Fiction; Poetry; Photography; Music & Lyrics; Film; Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) Writing; and Visual Arts.
A $1,000 GRAND PRIZE will be awarded to that single entry which shows the greatest
level of overall excellence in one of the eight categories: fiction, non-fiction, poetry,
photography, film, music/lyrics, STEM writing and visual art. The decision of the judges
is final; the judges may also elect not to give the award or to split it into two $500
prizes. The prize money is paid directly to the winner. This is not a scholarship; it is a
direct cash award. Previous winners of this prize are not eligible to win a second time, but
they can enter and win first prizes in any or all categories.
First prize of $250 is offered in all categories. Based on the number of second, third and fourth prizes awarded, cash grants may be made of amounts up to $100, based on funds available and the number of awards granted.

College Alumni Literary Competition
The Alpha Delta Phi Foundation Alumni Literary Competition is made possible through a generous donation by the Bowdoin Alpha Delta Phi Chapter Alumni Association. It is open to all college alumni associated with Alpha Delta Phi at select schools. There are four distinct categories: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Poetry, and Photography.
The first-prize winner in each category is awarded $250 in the form of a charitable donation on the award recipient’s behalf. Based on the number of second and third prizes awarded, awards may be given in amounts up to $100 per winner, based on funds available and the number of awards granted. Donations must go to a local or regional public library or an accredited school, college, or university library that may legally receive charitable, tax-free donations. The Alpha Delta Phi Foundation Board reserves the right to review the designated charities.
